Patrick and Sharon Cordes, Executive Directors

Patrick Cordes was born in Nebraska and grew up in a small town with a population of less than 200 people. In 1971 he joined the Navy to see the world. While serving, he obtained a computer technology education, launching a 40-year career. His naval stint and aerospace industry work have taken him to 11 foreign countries. An aircraft carrier landing/take-off and an at-sea transfer to a submarine have been a couple of his travel highlights. Patrick considers himself a jack of all trades. While being awed by technological advances, he invented a very simple solution for immediate classroom test scoring and analysis, the Sharpat Kit, thus assisting today’s educators with tomorrow’s leaders. Patrick was involved with the Miss Placentia-Yorba Linda Scholarship Program for six years and was co-chair of the interview preparation team with his wife, Sharon. Patrick is a Miss America certified judge, and is excited to serve as the Executive Director of the Miss Anaheim Scholarship Association!

For over seven years, Dr. Sharon Cordes volunteered with the Miss Placentia-Miss Yorba Linda Scholarship Program, most recently as interview preparation co-chair and judges chairperson. She has been a Miss America Organization certified judge for the past five years. Sharon is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Southern California, holds a Master’s degree from San Diego State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from UC Irvine and Los Angeles. Over the past 37 years, Sharon has worked in public education as a teacher, elementary and middle school principal, adjunct university professor, and she currently serves as Director of Assessment and Evaluation for the Tustin Unified School District. Sharon is the 2007 recipient of the Distinguished Alumnae Award from UC Irvine, where she serves on the Dean’s Board of Directors for the School of Education. In her leisure time, Sharon dances on a competition clogging team and gets her groove-on at Zumba workouts. She and her husband, Patrick, enjoy working with the young women who compete in the Miss California Organization to help them develop self-confidence, leadership, and public speaking skills.

She later began to pursue her goal of becoming Miss California as she attended and graduated from University of California, Riverside with a Bachelors in Business Economics, Law and a Minor in Spanish. In the year 2009 Ridhi was crowned Miss National Orange Show to compete at Miss California as Miss San Bernardino County 2009.

Finally in 2010 Ridhi met her “king”, now husband Hemal Ratanjee. But before she tied the knot and became a Mrs. she had one more crown to conquer. Residing in Newport Beach she competed in the official preliminary for Miss California USA, and was crowned Miss Newport Beach USA 2012. Now married, Mrs. Ratanjee works at Tiffany and Co. at South Coast Plaza and has the passion to give back to the best memories of her life. She speaks with such great gratitude about her experience as a part of the Miss California Organization. Courtney Trouten was born and raised in Orange County and loves living in beautiful and sunny Southern California. Courtney received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from California State University of Fullerton in 2011 and currently works as a Fund Analyst for WNC & Associates, Inc. Starting in 2010, Courtney became a Big Sister volunteer through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. She has been mentoring the same little sister, Salma, since day one of her involvement and feels honored to have the opportunity to make a difference in a young woman’s life. In April of 2015 Courtney received her 200 RYT Yoga Instructor Certification from CorePower Yoga. She now enjoys teaching Vinyasa yoga on the weekends at Core Works Fitness in Orange. She also received her Zumba Fitness Instructor Certification in August of 2015.

Since the age of five Courtney has enjoyed performing on stage with dancing and singing. In high school she found her passion for choreography and the “behind the scenes” aspects of stage performance. Courtney began her involvement in the Miss America Organization in 2010 competing in the Miss Fullerton Scholarship Pageant and even though Courtney didn’t place, she instantly fell in love with the Miss America Organization. She later went on to win Miss Tustin 2011, Miss Northern California Regional 2012 and Miss South Counties 2013. Now as a volunteer, Courtney enjoys helping young ladies who compete through the Miss America Organization experience the wonderful opportunities this organization makes available them. Seeing the growth that every young woman goes through after competing for Miss Anaheim/Anaheim Hills is why she volunteers for this organization and believes wholeheartedly in it.
